Harmony (kMOD)

(kMOD) is my own mod of Mr.doob's Harmony procedural drawing tool. You can get your hands on the mod at this address :

Continue reading if you want to learn about the mod's features and why I'm working on it :)

I'm really liking to work with Harmony and I'm trying to bring it even deeper into my illustration activities. Yesterday I thought I could be using it for creating custom brushes and patterns for Photoshop / Painter / ArtRage etc, and so I wished it was possible to save the image with a transparent background. I also wanted a fast way to stop the stroke interactions without having to change tool. I finally spent some time on Mr.doob's source code and added both features.

The new features and the changes are explained in the popup you can access pressing on the (kMod) button. I'll probably add one or two more features I have in mind. The possible new releases of the mod will be posted at same address and overwrite old ones -- and this blog post will be updated.

That's all for now! Don't forget to show your appreciation to Mr.doob, the original author of this great tool!

NOTE : I'm still cleaning the code a bit, I'll post the archive with the source here on github in next days when I'll finish adding all the features I planned.

EDIT 25th July 2010 : I just did put online a new version (0.2) with a new function for setting default colors (D key, like in Photoshop). I also added shortcuts for Break! and Clear functions and changed brush size shortcuts to new ones. Anyway, check the About :)

EDIT 09th August 2010 : I redesigned the UI and started changing some stuff under the hood; the updated version is now the 0.3 and the next one will hopefully include one of the 2 features I'm working on (I'm still debugging it).

EDIT 15th August 2010 : I fixed a bug concerning the color picker, added a new brush, added an indicator with brush size, changed/added some shortcuts; I'm having some troubles implementing the two features I need, so they're delayed to the next release (current release is now 0.4).

EDIT 24th August 2010 : I added two new brushes (Nervous and Rake, the latter having custom controls), reorganized the GUI, improved the brush indicator size, removed some stuff (support for wacom, mobile, touch screen -- check the (kMod) popup to know why), added shortcuts and other minor stuff. I'm working on some new brushes and on another idea that is not as easy as I thought at beginning. The Rake brush is still under development and will improve in next release. By the way, current release is now 0.6 :)
